Willard second at Hohenstein Classic

CLYDE — The Willard boys golf team was runners-up Monday at the Ralph Hohenstein Classic, hosted by Clyde High School at Green Hills golf course. Bellevue ran away from the field by shooting a 297 as a team. The Crimson Flashes were next with a 326, followed by Mansfield Madison (331), St. Mary Central Catholic (337) and Tiffin Columbian (337) in a tie for fourth. Also from the area, Norwalk (366) was 11th and St. Paul shot a 425 to place 15th. Ten players broke 80 on the par-71 layout. Willard was paced by Adler Ames with a 79. Also for the Flashes, Kaleb Weaver was one stroke behind with an 80, while Mason Dawson added an 82. Isaac Frye had an 85 and Jaxson Hall added an 89. Norwalk was led by Cohen Shoop, who carded an 85. Luke Metcalf and Caleb Thompson each shot 93s, followed by Emytt Graffice with a 97 and Avery Reitzel with a 107. In his first high school match, St. Paul freshman Mason Beatty shot a 77 to place fifth overall for the Flyers. Also for St. Paul, Connor Polachek shot a 91, followed by Everett Beal (125), Jacob Penwell (132) and Tristan Schlachter (150). GIRLS GOLF Crestview, 224, New London 238 NEW LONDON — The Wildcats opened the season with a home loss to Crestivew in a Firelands Conference match on Aug. 1 at Millstone Hills. For New London, Olivia Yetter shot a 58, while the trio of Pailee Wilson, Marissa Smith and Reagan Lunsford each shot 60s.
