Council fields questions

Council chambers was filled Monday with citizens with a variety of questions and concerns. Top of the items was the issue of the mayor's decision to choose a Greenwich resident for the Zoning & Planning Commission, despite the willingness of New Londoners to fill the vacancy. Mayor Toby Thomas again stated what he did was allowed by Ohio law and he felt it would be good for the village. Very few in attendance appeared to agree with him. Another resident complained about noise caused by the motocross track on Ledgett Street. It was pointed out the track is located legally, and a council member asked what he would suggest to fix the problem. No answer was received. A third resident said, "Nobody listens to the people" and asked for more transparency by council and village officials. Other business discussed In his report, Administrator Shawn Pickworth said he just returned from vacation and is getting caught up on phone calls and other business. He said the New London Avenue Project has been a struggle, but things are starting to smooth out. A leak on Shadyside was fixed and a water leak at the sewer plant will soon be repaired. Council appointed Mike Gerlak to fill the open position of zoning inspector and asked the solicitor to prepare a resolution for the next meeting to abolish the Zoning & Planning Commission.
