NORWALK — Watch out, Paris. Make way, Milan (the one in Italy) — Norwalk is celebrating its own Fashion Week. The first annual Norwalk Fashion Week is taking place Aug. 1-9 and is described by Belleza Boutique owner Laurie Schmuhl as "a way to celebrate and spotlight the incredible variety of retail options we have right here in Norwalk." Schmuhl told the newspaper she opened her shop on East Main Street in 2022, ushering in a wave of new clothing shops and greatly increasing the opportunity for residents to eschew shopping at box stores and instead buy their clothing at smaller local shops. "From shoes to statement pieces, everyday basics to accessories, you can build an entire outfit with ease," she said. The owners of several boutiques in the downtown area agreed to plan and participate in the event, coinciding with Ohio's Sales Tax Holiday, with each store setting its own hours and sales. "Be mindful that each participating store has its own hours. Plan ahead so you don't miss out on any of the fun," Schmuhl said. During the Ohio Sales Tax Holiday, the state, with a few exceptions, suspends sales tax collection for a period of time. This year, products under $500 can be purchased sales tax-free from midnight on Aug. 1 until 11:59 p.m. on Aug. 14. The event will feature a "Best Dressed Contest" in which participants send in photos of their group shopping and Schmuhl will choose the group that she feels "dressed the best," according to Schmuhl. "Get your girl gang together and show us your style during our Norwalk Fashion Week," Schmuhl said. "We're on the lookout for coordinated crews, bold looks, and creative themes.
