August fun to be had

NORWALK — The area has some great events planned for August. A few hits in the lineup recently shared by the Norwalk Area Visitor's Bureau, include: • Market on Main: Aug. 8, 4-8 p.m. Market on Main isn't just a farmers' market — it's a celebration of community, creativity, and connection. Nestled in the heart of Norwalk, Market on Main brings together local vendors, artisans, and neighbors in a vibrant gathering that's as much about sharing as it is about shopping, according to a news release. The Market will take place in Suhr Park and Parking lot, located at 35 W. Main St. • Norwalk's National Night Out: Aug. 5, 4-7 p.m. Family fun, giveaways and community connections are at the core of this upcoming event. Norwalk police are promoting this year's event as "bigger, better and safer than before," according to a social media post, and the city of Norwalk is calling it the "ultimate community block party." The event is happening 4-7 p.m. at the Norwalk Police Department, 37 N. Linwood Ave. According to a news release, the event will feature police and fire vehicles, military vehicles, games for kids, food trucks, free boy's haircuts, activities, giveaways and prizes. • 2025 Firelands Strongman Competition: Aug. 9, 10 a.m. Come watch some of the strongest men in the area compete to take home the title of the Firelands' Strongest Man. Athletes will compete in events showcasing their strength in unique ways including a car deadlift, beer keg carrying race and atlas stone lifting. The American Mess Hall food truck will be on site serving up food and drinks. • August slate of Wednesday Night Summer Concert series The August performances at this concert series, taking place weekly at the Norwalk Amphitheater, located at Veterans Memorial Lake Park at 417 Old State Road S., were recently announced: -Aug. 6: The Divots (acoustic classic and country rock) -Aug. 20: Camp Fire Ready (acoustic classics) -Aug. 27: Gary Meadows (Americana: Rock, country and blues • Maple City Half Marathon and 5 K: October 12 The inaugural Maple City Half Marathon & 5K on Sunday, October 12, 2025, will take place in Norwalk. This exciting event invites runners of all levels to experience the beautiful scenic routes while contributing to a worthy cause. Proceeds will benefit the Norwalk Area United Fund.
