Huron County commissioners taking care of business

Huron County Commissioner Tom Dunlap said it was nice for things to return to normal Tuesday."Last week was just so busy," he said. The commissioners did, though, handle a variety of issues at Tuesday's board meeting.Pete Welch, solid waste district director, met with the board in executive session about contract negotiations.Dunlap said he couldn't provide many details."I think Pete has just about got things wrapped up," he said.In other business, Jill Nolan, director of the Huron County Department of Job and Family Services, reported on the happenings at the agency."It was just her annual report," Dunlap said. "Things are going well out there. Jill always brings in a big stat sheet."Dunlap said the JFS facility currently is receiving a new boiler."Hopefully, that will help even out the heating system," he said. "That should be up and running soon."Also, Mike Gastier and Bonnie Malone, from the Ohio State University Extension office, updated the commissioners."Bonnie has a lot going with training 4-H advisers and other staff members for things like camp," Dunlap said. "She is also lining up the animal classes for the 4-Hers."Mike is busy getting together the pesticide and manure seminars the farmers have to have," he added. Dunlap said Joan Taylor, from Huron County Master Gardeners, also updated the board on activities.Dunlap said the Master Gardeners really have stretched out the focus into the county's outlying communities.The claims schedule was approved with little discussion Tuesday. The schedule is a list of bills the commissioners approve which are then forwarded to the auditor for payment."Nothing (of note) on the claims schedule," Dunlap said. "It was really short this time."Finally, the commissioners approved awarding the bid for the upgrade to Huron County public safety radio console and equipment."This is an EMA (Emergency Management Agency) grant," Dunlap said. "The grant is for the city of Norwalk, city of Willard and I think Bellevue is in on the grant, now. This is just for those areas, but we had to approve it because it is through the EMA."It is not for the sheriff's office," Dunlap said. "The sheriff told us it isn't needed yet."Dunlap
