Hart is Eagle Creek's latest inductee

NORWALK — Take the lead. For Eagle Creek's Heritage Park 2025 inductee Taylor Hart, it was more important for what he tried to do for Stein Hospice than anything he did on the golf course. "I encourage everyone to take an active role in getting involved in Stein Hospice services," Hart said on July 19 after being introduced by his longtime friend Mike Bick at the New State Rd. course. For many years, Hart was the chairman of a fundraising event that eventually raised just short of $1 million dollars for Stein Hospice. For more than 40 years, Stein Hospice has provided palliative and end-of-life care, caregiver support and grief services throughout Erie, Huron, Ottawa, Sandusky and Seneca counties. Following the Heritage Park ceremony, golfers teed it up in a unique 18-hole, par 3 event. All of the greens were used, but from different par 3 tee ball lengths. The winners of the one-best-ball of the foursome with a -11 score was the team of Alberto Yoguez, Tim Hallock, Max Berry and Mason Beatty. The lady's champion was Nancy Bleile with a score of one-over par. The individual men's champion was Chris Bleile at 6-under par. The proximity winners on hole 9 were Rick Brooker and Kyna Woods, while the closest on 18 were Ian Scheid and Kelly Smith. The winner of the putting challenge that followed the event was Logan Beatty. Bordman's win Three 6's Defending men's club champion Rod Bordman and his wife, Rosemary, teamed up to win the initial playing of the Three 6's event held on July 12. The event was scored in three areas: scramble, best ball and all shots. The Boardman's put numbers 21, 20 and 21, respectively, on their scorecard, totaling 62 strokes, or a -9 for the 18 holes. A scorecard playoff was needed for second place between three teams. Shooting 66's included Mason Beatty and Trey Hallock; Bill Terry and Dale Casper; and Karen and Steve Schneider. Dale Weirs and Tom Sharpnack finished at 67, while Ken and Nancy Bleile shot a 68. There was a five-way tie at 69. Eagle Creek members are reminded to sign up in the pro shop for the Calcutta, which will be contested on Aug. 3. The two-day Club championships are set for Aug. 16-17. Roth competes again Eagle Creek assistant Dustin Roth continues to keep his club at or near the top when it comes to weekly play in the Northern Ohio PGA Section events. "I am going out there with a clear frame of mind this year," said Roth, the assistant to Tyler Beveridge at the Norwalk course., Roth played at picturesque Kirtland Country Club on July 7 to earn more cash in Week 5 of the stroke play Pepsi-Club Car-sponsored event. Roth pocketed another $600 after finishing in a three-way tie for fifth with glowing 31-34--65 numbers. The round was played under the format of Stableford which gives points for totals on every hole. Roth amassed 37 points, really not that far off what the winner, a pro representing Canterbury GC, totaled, 41 points. Junior golf Meanwhile, Beatty continued to score well as he readies for high school golf next month as a freshman at St. Paul. At Glenmoor Country Club on July 7 in a field of 33 players ages 14-15, Beatty finished in a tie for first place after touring his nine holes at even par 36. One week later at Fox Den, he tied for 15th with an 89 (39-41). Norwalk resident Annabelle Seville, who will be a junior at Edison after qualifying for state in 2024, played well at the Old Avalon GC on July 8. She fashioned 36-40—76 numbers. That was seven strokes off the winner in the 16-19 age group. On July 9 at Riceland, Norwalk's Kilee Duncan — a recent graduate and also a state qualifier — put an 80 on the scoreboard, after carding a a pair of 40's. That was just four strokes behind the tournament leader. On July 22, Seville and Edison teammate Leah Sharp, also a Norwalk resident, participated in the Ohio Girls Golf Foundation Clinic and showcase at Avon Oaks. After receiving instruction from PGA professionals, players played 18 holes and Seville set a new low mark of a 75, which placed her sixth among 92 golfers.
