A terrific Touch-a-Truck

GREENWICH — The weather couldn't have cooperated better Saturday while the Greenwich Police Department hosted its first annual "Touch-a-Truck" event at Reservoir Park. Over 20 vehicles were proudly parked for attendees to climb around, sit on and learn about. ThorSport had its "number 13" racing truck displayed alongside the big rig and trailer that transports the car and team between races. The Ohio State Buckeyes' equipment truck and trailer also made an appearance. The Ohio State Highway Patrol SWAT team brought along their breaching vehicle and allowed people to get inside and sit in the driver's seat. The event was organized by Greenwich Police Officer Jason Bush and has been in the works since January. Bush told the newspaper he wanted to organize a free event for the community because he grew up in a low-income household and although his mother did what she could, sometimes they struggled to find things to do that didn't cost much money. "We didn't have extra money for the fair or Cedar Point and some families are like that today, so I wanted to create fun and free family events," he said. In addition to giving families something to do on a Saturday afternoon, Bush says the event is also a way for police and the community to interact together in a positive way. "It's a great community policing event that I wanted to put on, it gets the kids away from the Playstations and gets families out of the house to see cool vehicles and build a positive relationship with the police," Bush said.
