Dog days of summer

NORWALK — If you need a buddy for all the summer fun, check out these guys (and gals). The Huron County Dog Warden, located at 130 Shady Lane Drive in Norwalk, has plenty of dogs available for adoption. Here's a rundown of some of the canines up for adoption, with information on each dog provided by the dog warden's office. Junior • Breed: Pit Bull Mix • Sex: Male (Non-Neutered) • Estimated age: 3.5 years • Color: Gray/white • Adoption fee: $67.75 (check or cash only) "Junior is a male non-neutered gray and white pit bull mix breed. "He is both people- and dog-friendly, according to staff. Junior enjoys chewing and loves to play with 'squeaky' toys, playing tug-of-war and fetch. Staff members all comment on how playful he is. "He enjoys pig ears and non-rawhide chew sticks, he also likes to be outside. If you're looking for a pitty with a great smile who loves play and receive attention then come meet Junior. He could be your newest best friend." Journey • Breed: Pit Bull Mix • Sex: Male (non-neutered) • Estimated age: 1-2 years • Color: Red/white • Adoption fee: $45.25 (check or cash only) "Journey is a male non-neutered pit bull mix breed. He is around 1-2 years old and weighs around 60 pounds. "Journey is friendly towards people once he gets to know you. He becomes the 'sweetest' dog once he knows he is safe. He enjoys being petted, walks, car rides and food. He can sit, speak and catch treats. He is not a picky eater. He does well with other shelter pets. "We do not know how he is with cats. She is both people and dog friendly, according to Huron County Dog Warden staff, once she 'warms up to you.' Due to her timidity, staff recommends she be adopted by someone without small children or frequent guests. "Zayah loves to play fetch and sit for treats. She takes treats very calmly "If you have the right home setting for Zayah then come spend some time with her! She will be your best friend if you give her that chance." Axton • Breed: Pekingese Mix • Sex: Male (non-neutered) • Color: Red/white • Estimated age: 2-3 years • Adoption fee: $67.75 (check or cash only) "Axton is a male non-neutered red and white Pekingese mix breed. He is being guessed around 2-3 years in age and around 16 pounds. "Axton is people-friendly but can be skittish as well. Staff believes he would do best in a quiet environment. He has done well in meet and greets with other small dogs and cats at the shelter but became aggressive toward them when he was introduced to them in their home. Staff members have been told he is housetrained as well. "If you have the time and patience to help Axton feel at home then come meet him soon. He loves blankets and would be the best blanket snuggler." He is around one-and-a-half years and 50 pounds. "Zeke shows some fear being in the shelter and was timid. Staff says that after about an hour, he became the staff's 'best friend.' Due to his timidity, they recommend he go to a home with older children. Zeke is dog friendly and staff believe a home with another dog could be a good fit for him. "Zeke and the staff is hoping someone gives this baby time and patience as he much deserves it. If you're interested in Zeke, please stop in to meet him."
