Come out to National Night Out

NORWALK — The city's annual National Night Out is coming to the Norwalk Police Department on Tuesday, Aug. 5, and everyone is invited. Norwalk police are promoting this year's event as "bigger, better and safer than before," according to a social media post, and the city of Norwalk is calling it the "ultimate community block party." The event is happening 4-7 p.m. at the Norwalk Police Department, 37 N. Linwood Ave. According to a news release, the event will feature: • Police vehicle and fire truck tours • Military vehicles & farm equipment displays • Kids games, activities, giveaways and prizes • Food trucks serving up local favorites • BOLD Beauty Bar & Extensions will be adding sparkle with hair tinsel installs • Bad Habits Barber Shop and Esthetics will be offering free boys' haircuts • The Mail Room will be open 4-7 p.m. with DORA beverages and event-themed bar specials • Sheri's Coffee House is treating first responders to free drinks all day • The Completely Baked Pretzel Company will be parked at Sheri's from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Norwalk hopes to make this an annual event, according to Mayor Dave Light. "We tried to do it last year, but the weather didn't cooperate, but Bad Habits barber shop were here cutting hair in the garage," Norwalk police Chief Scott Dahlgren said. Dahlgren emphasizes the idea that communities and public servants should have a time and place to get to know each other and for children "to learn we are here to help them" and the program is one way to foster that sense of safety and community. "This is a great opportunity for the community to mingle with police and firefighters," Dahlgren said. "It's a great way to get the whole community having fun here."
