Wakeman man hurt in crash

WAKEMAN TWP. — A Wakeman man was sent to the hospital with life-threatening injuries as a result of a traffic crash on Saturday evening. The 37-year-old man was taken to a Norwalk hospital before being flown by medical helicopter to a Cleveland hospital. Here's what we know, according to an Ohio State Highway Patrol media release: • The crash occurred just before 7:30 p.m. • A 75-year-old Elyria woman was driving a Ford Expedition SUV eastbound on Ohio 303. • The Wakeman man was driving a Toyota Corolla southbound on Ohio 60. • The Elryia woman allegedly failed to yield from a stop sign and entered the intersection. • The Expedition struck the Corolla. • The Expedition went off-road to the right and struck a tree. • The Corolla went off-road to the left, where it struck a bush and a chicken coop. The Elyria woman and her passenger, a 57-year-old Elyria man, suffered minor injuries and were ground transported to a Norwalk hospital. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash and both drivers were wearing their seat belts, the release states. Troopers continue to investigate the crash. No charges have been filed as of late Saturday.
