Willard to celebrate holiday

WILLARD — Willard will be celebrating July 4 a day early on July 3 at Willard Park, and everyone is invited. Here's what's happening, with all events taking place at the park, 541 S. Main St.: FREEdom Swim The Willard Pool will be open its normal hours from 1-6 p.m. with a special "FREEdom Swim" from 8-9:30 p.m. There is no cost for the extended swim hours. "This is a great time to cool off from the parade and before the fireworks," according to a news release. Petting zoo The Huron County Community Library is also hosting a petting zoo from 4-7 p.m. The Wild Hooves Petting Zoo will be in the area next to Kiddie Land. "They are bringing some fun animals like alpacas, sheep, goats, mini donkeys, mini cows, mini horses, and more," the release states. Skate Jam Doug Brown, a professional skateboarder, athlete, motivational speaker, and published author will be hosting a "Skate Jam." Doug has been seen on NBC's Today Show, at the Gravity Games, AST Dew Tour, Fuel TV, and Vans Warped Tour. Doug also tours with the band The Newsboys. Doug is more than just a pro athlete. Hidden behind a contagious smile and charisma is a wide range of talents and a strong sense of determination, according to the release. Skaters are welcome to bring their boards and skate. Meet Doug at the Skate Park at 4 p.m. Muckstorm MuckStorm hits the stage at 7 p.m. MuckStorm is a local classic rock and country band. They cover a wide range of music from Christ Stapleton to Pink Floyd. Parade The Independence Day Parade begins at 7 p.m. There will be a wide variety of entries that want to show their best patriotic red, white, and blue, according to the release. Fireworks Thursday night will close with a fireworks show at 10 p.m. at Willard Park. Food trucks will be available throughout the day.
