Campers question rate increase

A number of Reservoir Park seasonal campers were among the large crowd at Monday's council meeting The campers learned that council discussed raising their seasonal rate by $400 to $2,700 next year, and they wanted to know, "Where is our money going?" Several said they have no activities, the laundry facilities are inadequate, the roads are not very good and many people get in without paying. They heard plans are for upgrades to the shower house that most of them do not use, and they are not interested in a splash pad or new office. Council members thanked them for their opinions and tabled an ordinance on the agenda setting park fees and rates for 2026 until members had time to research the matter. Levy sought At the last meeting, Administrator Shawn Pickworth said the village has no money for street repairs and asked members to consider a levy. At this meeting council passed two resolutions, which are the first steps in getting a levy on the November ballot for "general construction, reconstruction, resurfacing and repair of streets, roads and bridges." An ordinance allowing for "educational animal projects" in the village passed, as were several routine items. Two candidates have applied for the position of zoning inspector, and council will interview them as soon as possible. New solicitor New London also named Natalie Schulte as the new village solicitor. A village solicitor, sometimes known in other municipalities as a law director, acts as a legal advisor and attorney for the municipality. Schulte replaces former village solicitor Steve Bond, who announced his retirement at the end of the village council's previous meeting.
