Breaking ground at school's new track

GREENWICH — Many people, including those representing Fisher-Titus, took part in a recent groundbreaking for South Central Schools as it pertains to a new track as part of a complete athletic complex transformation at the high school. "We're proud to help bring this fantastic facility to life, providing students with a state-of-the-art space for the upcoming school year," according to a statement from Fisher-Titus. Fisher-Titus provided additional information on the project: The track upgrade is one part of a larger effort, as the entire South Central stadium is being renovated. The new all-weather track will be eight lanes and replace the current stone track. The stone track prevented South Central from hosting home meets since 1992, but this new installment will give the athletes the home advantage they deserve. "This isn't just an upgrade — it's a game changer. It will serve thousands of students over the coming years, not only in track and field, but in football, band, physical education, and community events. It's a facility designed not only to honor our athletes' achievements but to inspire the next generation of Trojans," South Central superintendent Ben Chaffee stated. Adena Corporation kicked off the groundbreaking and will continue to lead the construction. "It is a privilege for Adena Corporation to be selected to work on this project. This is a very exciting, fast-paced project that the district/community will be able to use and call home for years to come. We look forward to working with South Central Local Schools to make this a very successful and rewarding project for them," said Aaron Bond, Project Executive with Adena Corporation. The track will also be available for public walking and jogging when not being used by the school and during established open hours. "Fisher-Titus is proud to support this project that benefits health and wellness for South Central students and surrounding communities. We are excited to partner with the school board and athletic department to bring this project to completion," said Fisher-Titus President & CEO Dr. Brent Burkey. The stadium and track renovations are expected to be completed in time for the 2025 football season.
