Nine from area earn FC first team

Outright champion South Central put three players on the first team and an area player earned Pitcher of the Year honors on the Firelands Conference baseball teams. Plymouth junior Jarrett Burrer earned Pitcher of the Year honors in the league. He finished 6-3 with a 2.41 earned run average in 12 games. He struck out 85 batters and walked 51 in 58 innings this past season. South Central (16-11, 10-4) put three players on the first team, led by its lone senior, shortstop Aaron Hauler. He hit .338 with five doubles, one home run and 12 RBIs in 20 games. Also for the Trojans, junior pitcher Wes June (9-1, 1.79 ERA) was on the first team. He struck out 49 with only six walks. He also hit .359 with eight doubles and 18 RBIs. Junior Troy Ayers (.393, eight doubles, 14 RBIs) joined him on the first team. St. Paul had two first team selections in junior infielder Landon Fries and junior catcher Gabe Snyder. Fries batted .356 with four doubles, one triple and 20 RBIs for the Flyers (13-11, 8-6), while Snyder hit .271 with a double, 14 RBIs and 17 runs scored. Also on the first team was Plymouth junior Lex Grose, who hit .432 with 11 doubles, two home runs and 39 RBIs. He was joined by New London junior Oliver Harrison, who hit .419 with six doubles, three triples, one home run and 15 RBIs. Also on the first team was Monroeville sophomore Colt Clark and Western Reserve senior Connor Harmeling. Second team honors for South Central included juniors Bryan Chaffee (.400, two doubles, 16 RBIs) and Cole Frankart (.357, six doubles). Earning second team for the Flyers included senior Gavin Thurston (.317, four doubles, 14 RBIs) and freshman Alex Marsh (8-2, 1.32 ERA, 88 strikeouts, 32 walks). For Plymouth (15-11, 9-5), juniors Lincoln Distl (.356, eight doubles, 21 RBIs) and Keegan Beverly (.330, 14 RBIs) were also voted to the second team. Other area second team selections included New London junior Brody Sword (.340, seven doubles, 11 RBIs); and Monroeville senior Landin Hershiser and freshman Tristan Wise. Crestview's Gavin Barker was the Player of the Year for the FC. He hit .476 with eight doubles, two triples, four home runs and 22 RBIs. Coach of the Year honors went to South Central's Nick Kirk after the Trojans battled back from an early deficit to win the FC outright. After lone senior Hauler was lost for the season with seven games left, the Trojans also advanced to a Div. VII district title game, where they fell to Mohawk.
