'Positive Potatoes' recognized

NORWALK — A Norwalk Schools counselor awarded several district students for their growth as students and positive young learners. Main Street School counselor Kyrah Cagle gave out her yearly awards last week recognizing a handful of 5th and 6th grade students. "The Positive Potato" award recognizes a student who has shown exemplary positivity and encouragement amongst their peers throughout the year, according to Cagle. "Last year, a student who was extremely positive and encouraging amongst her peers pointed out the little "positive potato" that I had in my office, and I honestly just had this spark of interest in me to seek out and reward the students I have seen exemplary positivity and encouragement in." The Most Valuable Progress (M.V.P.) award is awarded to a second-year student who has shown immense academic, mental, or behavioral progress in a student over the course of their two years at Main Street, according to Cagle. "Getting all A's or no infractions are great accomplishments, but for some students it's the slow but positive progress alone that gives them motivation to keep going in that direction," she said. Cagle wants the students to know how proud she is of their daily improvements and implores them to continue to grow. "They were all eager to receive these awards, and should all be proud of themselves and continue being amazing. Way to go to these outstanding students. Keep up the efforts as you travel to your next adventure," she said via a social media post. Cagle said that as a counselor, she has a duty to every student under her care both in school and during non-school hours. "My priority as a school counselor is striving to create and maintain a solid and positive relationship with every single student so they know they are cared for and valued at school," Cagle said. "In doing this, I am truly able to see each student shine and soar to their heights as both inside and outside of the classroom during their time at Main Street."
