A terrific Trike-A-Thon

NORWALK — Kids learned the importance of safety while riding their two- and three-wheeled human-powered vehicles last week. Christian Day Nursery School on Benedict Avenue hosted the St. Jude's Trike-A-Thon with its students on May 9. It's a program of the St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital — attendees of the event had an opportunity to donate to St. Jude's — and Fisher-Titus Medical Center also offered a "Helmets for Kids" program at the event, in which students could buy bicycle helmets for $2. "This program promotes safety rules for children when riding their bikes, tricycles or scooters. Students rode on the sidewalk around the church's parking lot and teachers were at different stations," to reinforce safety rules, according to a release from the nursery school. Kids in attendance learned that they should: • Always wear a helmet when riding. • Look both ways and walk your bicycle/tricycle/scooter at crosswalks. • Always keep looking for cars and trucks when crossing driveways. • Never cross railroad tracks when the gates are down and lights flashing. • Pay attention and look where you are going.
