New London council meeting hosted

NEW LONDON — Check out a roundup of the most recent New London council meeting: Zoning commission In a meeting prior to the regular council meeting Monday, the Zoning Commission voted against changing 118 E. Main and 26 E. Washburn to R3-Multi-Family Residential Use Districts. Based on this recommendation, council removed the ordinances from any future action. Residents spoke against the issues because the plans were to build multifamily apartment buildings that could possibly downgrade the neighborhoods. Street paving Administrator Shawn Pickworth reported the funding application to pave the streets of Grant, W. Hooker, Clyde, Daisy, Williams and Cedar was approved by the Small Governments Board. The $548,720 project should begin around September. Spring cleanup Pickworth reminded residents Spring Cleanup continues May 14 and 21. Storm sewer replacement work continues on N. Main and E. Washburn. Measures approved Council approved two measures, one for Emergency Management Services for the village and the second to allow animals, otherwise prohibited, to be in the village temporarily as part of educational projects. Officer recommended Council accepted Police Chief Joe Hicks' recommendation to remove Emily Cerovac from her successful probationary period. Next meeting canceled The next regular council meeting scheduled for Monday, May 26 was canceled because it is Labor Day.
