Doughty resigns from city council

NORWALK — Norwalk city councilman Matt Doughty recently announced that he will resign from his position, effective Saturday, due to his family relocating to Perkins Township, which conflicts with council residency requirements. In his resignation letter, Doughty explained his reasons for leaving the council and looked back on his term in office. "Serving on city council has been one of the greatest honors of my life," he stated. "I am incredibly proud of the work we have done together to support and strengthen our community." Doughty was appointed in 2018, taking over the seat held by Chris Castle prior to Castle's resignation. Doughty was later elected to a four-year term in November 2019 and re-elected in November 2023. The county's Democratic central committee will appoint a new councilmember to take Doughty's position. Doughty heaped praise on city workers and employees in his letter to the council, calling them "one of Norwalk's greatest strengths." Doughty's resignation letter closed by thanking his constituents and fellow Norwalk citizens. "Thank you for your trust, your support, and your shared commitment to this community," he wrote. "Please keep pushing forward and standing up for the values and vision that make Norwalk a place we are all proud to call home."
