Monroeville dominates SJCC for ninth straight

MONROEVILLE — Undefeated Monroeville again cruised to another victory after scoring nine runs in the first two innings of a 13-0 win over visiting Fremont St. Joseph Central Catholic Thursday at Clark Park. In the bottom of the first, Veanna Helmstetter walked and scored on an RBI single by Taryn Tyler, who then scored on a passed ball for a 2-0 lead. Madi Reiber also walked and scored on a passed ball, then G Bragg delivered a two-run single to center to make it 5-0 after one frame. In the second, Helmstetter again walked and scored on a passed ball, then Avery Rosser added an RBI single before Reiber and Rosser both again scored on a passed ball to extend the lead to 9-0. Rosser finished 2 for 2 with a double and two RBIs, while Tyler was 2 for 3 with a double, an RBI and scored four times. Helmstetter went the first three innings for the Eagles (9-0) and did not allow a hit or a run. She struck out four with no walks. Payton Weilnau then added two scoreless innings with six strikeouts and no walks. Monroeville is slated to visit Buckeye Central on Saturday in non-league play before taking on Plymouth at home Monday and on the road Tuesday in Firelands Conference play. Fre. Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the first, Ella Kalizewski hit a solo home run for St. Paul (3-3). In the second, Marlaina Sowers, Zoe Roth and Bella Guerra each walked to load the bases with one out. Riley Mansfield-Bush then hit a two-run single, and Taegan Mansfield-Bush added an RBI fielder's choice to give the Flyers a 4-1 lead. But the Lakers (6-2) scored two runs each in the second, sixth and seventh innings to pull away for the win. Guerra went the first six innings for the Flyers. She allowed five earned runs on seven hits with two strikeouts and one walk. St. Paul hosts Edison in a non-league game Saturday before hosting Western Reserve Monday and visiting the Roughriders Tuesday in a pair of FC games.
