Norwalk pulls away from Huron for win

NORWALK — The Norwalk softball team broke open a tight game with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning of a 7-4 win over visiting Huron in a non-league game Monday at NHS. With the win, the Truckers improved to 2-6 overall. Mya Prochnow finished with three hits, including a double, and drove in two runs for Norwalk. Starting pitcher Kenadee Lesch also had three hits and three RBIs, while Audryn Ott singled three times and scored three runs from the leadoff position. Sophia Ames added two hits for the Truckers, and Saige Viock had a double. Emma Gebhardt and Lilly Farmer each singled. In the circle, Lesch allowed four earned runs on six hits with 10 strikeouts and three walks in seven innings. Norwalk is scheduled to host Willard in another non-league game Tuesday. New London scored five runs in the first inning, then held off the Flyers from there. Madison Rowland doubled and hit a solo homer for the Wildcats, while Gracie Thomas homered with three RBIs. Olivia Yetter was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI. Also for New London, N Weaver was 2 for 4 with an RBI and Addison Yetter singled with an RBI. Paiton Shepherd went 6 2/3 innings for the win. She allowed five runs (four earned) on 12 hits with two strikeouts. For St. Paul (2-3, 0-1), Kegney Stoll was 3 for 4 with a double and scored three times. Riley Mansfield-Bush also had three singles with an RBI, and Zoe Roth was 2 for 3 with an RBI and Taegan Mansfield-Bush was 2 for 3 with a double.
