Norwalk tops Edison in tennis opener

NORWALK — The Norwalk boys tennis team opened the season with a 4-1 win over visiting Edison Monday at the Middle School courts. "It was very exciting to see a lot of our young guys get out and play their first official match," first-year Norwalk coach Eric Hull said. "For some kids, this was their first varsity tennis match and their first win in an official match. "It was a good experience for the players to get out and see how to win a match on their own without us coaches being on the court with them." At first singles, Edison's Adin Colbert got the lone win for the Chargers by topping Norwalk's Jeremiah McCreary, 6-2, 6-4. At second singles, Eli Kluding won in straight sets (6-2, 6-3) for the Truckers, as did Evan Minor at third singles (6-3, 6-4). The first doubles team of Edward Ramos Cruz and Roman Snyder dropped just one game in a win (6-0, 6-1). Also for Norwalk, the second doubles team of Levi Dickerson and Jack Pittenger won in three sets, 6-0, 4-6, 10-1. Norwalk is scheduled to host Bellevue in its SBC Lake Division opener Tuesday. "It was an excellent start for our season and showed promise for our young players moving forward," Hull said.
