New police sgt. sworn in

NORWALK — The Norwalk Police Department has a new supervisor with the promotion of a department officer to sergeant on Wednesday. Following his swearing in by Norwalk Mayor Dave Light at Norwalk City Hall, Sydney Cotterill completed the ceremony by pinning a new badge on her husband Caleb Cotterill, making him the newest sergeant in the department. A group of city administrators, police Chief Scott Dahlgren and other Norwalk police officers joined Cotterill's friends and family to watch the event. According to Dahlgren, Cotterill has been a member of the Norwalk Police Department since 2019 and is a member of the Special Response Team. Mayor Dave White touted Cotterill's honesty and integrity as a major reason he is a good fit for this position within the department. "He is a solid young man with a lot of character and honesty, he has great instincts and critical thinking skills," Light said, "He'll be in good shape, and so will the community." Cotterill is an outdoorsman who enjoys hunting and fishing in his off-duty hours.
