Student wants to train at Nadal camp

NORWALK — He hopes to learn to play like one of tennis' all-time greats. Norwalk High School freshman tennis player Jeremiah McCreary, 14, has a "once-in-a-lifetime" chance to go to Mallorca, Spain, this July to train at a tennis camp hosted by famed Spanish player Rafael Nadal. Jeremiah is one of 40 children worldwide to get an invite, his mother, Sandy McCreary, said. "This is huge for Jeremiah," Sandy said, noting that Jeremiah qualified for the Spain camp through his participation at a Nadal camp in Florida. "Seeing our boy chase his dream of a future in tennis is everything." Jeremiah hopes to one day play tennis at Ohio State University. A number of locations have donation boxes set up to help pay for the trip. They include Mane Root 250, Maple City Nutrition, Extreme Fitness, Wild & Free Coffee Co., Berry's On Main, Belleza Boutique and Christian Roberts in Norwalk; Court 1 in Sandusky; and Paramount Tennis Club in Crocker Park. People can also donate by sending funds through Venmo to @Sandra-McCreary-5. Jeremiah and the Trucker boys tennis team opens the season vs. Edison at 4:15 p.m. March 31 at the Middle School courts.
