Stieber voted FC Player of the Year

After a record-breaking career, Monroeville senior guard Grace Stieber was selected as the Firelands Conference Player of the Year, the league announced Monday. In 22 games, Stieber averaged 12.5 points, 4.1 rebounds, 3.3 assists and two steals per game. She helped the Eagles to a 13-9 record, including a 10-4 mark in the FC. Stieber scored 720 points in her career at Monroeville. She is the single-season record holder for 3-pointers in a season (47, 2024) and in a career (119). "Grace has worked extremely hard both in-season and out-of-season over the past four years," Monroeville head coach Ryan Bohn said. "She is very deserving of this honor. Grace has been a strong leader within our program. "We are very proud of her for this accomplishment, and for all that she has achieved throughout her high school career." FC champion New London had two players on the first team in juniors Valery Henry and Gracie Thomas. A guard, Henry averaged 9.1 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.2 steals per game. A post, Thomas averaged 9.6 points and 8.1 rebounds per contest. Also on the first team was Plymouth sophomore Kendyll Tolbert. She averaged 10.6 points, 3.2 rebounds and 3.2 steals per game for the Big Red, who won a sectional championship this season. Earning second team honors from the area included New London juniors Pailee Wilson and Olivia Yetter; Monroeville senior Julia White and freshman Sophia Stieber; St. Paul junior Morgan Endsley; Western Reserve junior Layken Barnhart; and South Central junior Emily Lamoreaux. New London head coach Eric Mitchell, who just finished his 12th season at the school, was voted the Coach of the Year. The Wildcats started the season with six varsity players and finished with five. Still, New London went 14-0 in the FC for the second straight year to win back-to-back championships.
