South Central girls win Danville meet

The South Central powerlifting team recently competed at Danville's 32nd annual lifting meet, which featured 291 total competitors and more than 21 teams on Feb. 15 at Danville High School. The athletes also competed by weight class, but also ninth versus 10th graders and juniors versus seniors in the same weight classes. The Trojans won the meet on the girls side, finishing ahead of Piketon and Warsaw Riverview. Jayla Tolliver had a record-setting day for South Central in the 175-pound weight class among juniors and seniors. She won all three lifts and broke several meet and program records. Tolliver had a new meet record with a 155-pound bench; and new meet and S.C. records in the squat (295 pounds); deadlift (365) and total weight (815 pounds). Tolliver also was the top female (BMI) lifter of the meet. Jenna Shepherd was first in the 135-pound class with first place in the bench (130), squat (310) and total weight (745). At 125, Luaren Ingram also placed first in all three lifts with the bench (115), squat (185) and a meet record in the deadlift (280). She also won with total weight (580). At 165, Autumn Fry won all three lifts in the bench (135), squat (290) and deadlift (300) for a total weight of 725. At 135, Savannah Hartley (395) was fifth overall and in the unlimited weight class, Izzy Lucha (635) was fourth. In the freshmen/sophomores divisions, Riley Major took first place at 135 with a deadlift of 280 and a total weight of 620. Also at 135, Jayna Smith was second (580) and Ivy Doughty (425) was fourth. At 115, Riley Lydy (435) was second, followed by Shaleigh Barker (420) in fifth and Riley Carsey (395) in sixth. Claire Huffman was fourth in the unlimited weight class. On the boys side, the Trojans finished in fifth place. In the grades 11-12 divisions, Carson Buurma was second at 145 with 795 pounds total. Havik Nye was third at 145 with 795 pounds as well, and Andrwe Wallen was third at 175 with 900 pounds. At 195, Leelan Jackson was fourth at 195 with 1,060 total pounds, including a deadlift of 435. Jacob Coy was fourth at 175 with 705 pounds, and Evan Arnold was fifth at 165 with 735 pounds. In the grades 9-10 division, Brayden Mills was second at 125 with 520 total pounds. Travis Steele placed sixth at 210 with 895 pounds.
