Police probe woman's death

WILLARD — Authorities said a woman found dead in Willard this past weekend likely suffered from hypothermia after a fall. The Huron County Sheriff's Office received a call just before 11 a.m. on Sunday reporting an unresponsive female at 1832 Hanville Corners Road, Willard, according to a news release sent out Wednesday from the sheriff's office. First responders from the Willard fire, the sheriff's office and North Fairfield fire arrived on the scene and discovered a deceased woman in the yard. The victim was identified as 43-year-old Eugenia Michele Wadman, according to the release. Preliminary evidence suggests that Wadman took her dog outside during the night wearing only light pajamas. She appeared to have fallen and sustained injuries consistent with struggling and crawling on the snow and ice-covered yard, the release states. Hypothermia likely set in quickly due to temperatures ranging from mid-to-low 20 degrees. While medical conditions may have contributed, no signs of foul play were observed, the report said. The Huron County coroner was notified, and an autopsy was conducted by the Lucas County medical examiner. Authorities noted the investigation remains open, pending autopsy results.
