Bellevue shoots past Willard

WILLARD — The Willard girls basketball team lost its third straight game following a 69-47 setback against visiting Bellevue in a non-league game Wednesday night. The visiting Lady Red (13-1) — coming off a 41-38 loss at Norwalk on Jan. 4 — made 10 3-pointers in the victory inside Robert L. Haas Gymnasium. Bellevue jumped on Willard (10-3) from the start, leading 19-10 after one quarter and 34-18 at halftime. Reese Bedingfield scored 11 points for the Crimson Flashes. Corrin Gettys added 10 points, and Willard also got nine points each from Emelia Tallman and Camryn Wiers. Hailey Rees led the Lady Red with 18 points. She made three 3s. Kaitlyn Turinsky added 13 points and Ellie Freitag finished with 12. Willard returns to SBC Bay Division play on Saturday at Vermilion (5-9, 1-2). Ivy Kluding led the Chargers (7-5) with 12 points and Stella Brown had 11. Ella Booth added five points, eight rebounds and four steals, while Taylor Moore also had seven steals. Margaretta won the girls meet, 99-61, while the boys won, 136-12. The lone first-place finisher for St. Paul was Kennedie Frazee in the 100-yard butterfly (1:10.9) and the 200 IM (2:34.38). Second-place individual finishers for St. Paul included Allison Talbot in the 200 free (2:40.74), Elaina Coriell (1:04.82) in the 100 free and 100 backstroke (1:14.18); and Sarah Gocsik in the 500 free (6:52.61), JUNIOR HIGH NMS teams fall to Perkins NORWALK — The Norwalk Middle School boys and girls basketball teams took on Perkins Wednesday night. The eighth-grade boys fell to the Pirates, 45-29. Konner Ruble led the Truckers with 16 points and Lyric Shipp had six points. Also scoring for Norwalk was Brady Ream (4), Aiden Kahn (2) and Preston Norris (1). In the seventh-grade game, the Pirates pulled away from the host Truckers (5-3) in the fourth quarter of a 45-32 win. Blake Muskovich scored 19 points and Jacob Tyler added nine, and Reid Thompson had four points. The NMS girls also fell to the Pirates by a 41-37 score and were led by Kendill Robinson with 16 points. Joslyn Jackson added 10 points, followed by Kaprice Boetcher (5), Kaliste Robinson (4) and Savannah Buchanan (2). Lastly, the seventh-grade NMS girls fell by a 39-32 score. Kalli Oates scored 10 points for the Truckers (4-4), while Brynn Sellers had eight and Lillian Kipp added seven. Stella Kipp (4) and Londynn Clifton (3) rounded out the scoring.
