Monroeville, Plymouth win FC games

GREENWICH — The Monroeville girls basketball team broke open a close game with two huge middle quarters in Saturday's 55-24 win over host South Central in a Firelands Conference game. The Eagles (8-4, 5-2 FC) led just 9-7 after one quarter, but powered away from there with a 14-7 edge in the second quarter, then blew it open with a 21-5 scoring advantage in the third quarter. Julia White led Monroeville with 15 points. Grace Stieber, Grace Goodwin and Sophia Stieber each scored eight points. For South Central (1-10, 1-6), Emily Lamoreaux had seven points. The Eagles are at St. Paul on Thursday, while the Trojans are at Plymouth the same night. Reserve 24 COLLINS — The Big Red held the host Roughriders to just two points in the first half, then staved them off late for an FC win Saturday. For Plymouth (4-7, 3-4), Kendyll Tolbert scored a game-high 16 of her team's 28 points. Western (3-8, 2-4) was led by Layken Barnhart with 12 points and Ally Goebbel with eight points. Edison 50, Port Clinton 45 MILAN — A big third quarter proved to be the difference for the Chargers in its 50-45 SBC Bay Division win over the visiting Redskins on Saturday. The Chargers (6-4, 1-3 SBC Bay) trailed 25-23 at halftime, but used a 15-8 edge in the third quarter to take the lead. Then, Edison played even in the fourth quarter with the Redskins (8-5, 1-4) to pick up the win. Jorja Byington registered 15 points, seven rebounds and four steals for Edison. Ivy Kluding added 11 points, five assists and three steals.
