Deputies release additional info on truck overturning

The Huron County Sheriff's Office released additional details Wednesday about the truck that overturned Monday morning at the on ramp of U.S. 20 at U.S. 250 on Norwalk's south side. Officer Michaela Light said she was dispatched to the scene of the accident at around 8:22 a.m. Upon arriving, Light observed a tractor-trailer that had overturned on the U.S. 20 westbound ramp from the U.S. 250 N. The tractor-trailer had overturned and was lying on its passenger side. The driver of the tractor-trailer, Robert Conklin of Urichsville, Ohio, had already exited the vehicle when Light arrived. He was assisted in exiting the vehicle by witnesses to the accident, the report said. Conklin was taken to Fisher-Titus Medical Center for minor injuries. Light said she observed a large amount of coal in the ditch and on the roadside. There also was oil leaking from the tractor-trailer. The Norwalk Fire Department and Huron County EMA were both called to the area for assistance cleaning up the spill, the report said. Conklin told Light he was hauling 99,000 pounds of coal prior to the crash. Conklin said he believes the load might have been unevenly balanced with more weight on the right said of the tailer, which cause him to overturn, the report said. Conklin was given a citation for failure to control.
