Norwalk, St. Paul split swim meet

NORWALK — The Norwalk and St. Paul swim teams split a head-to-head matchup that also included Edison and Vermilion on Tuesday at the Ernsthausen Aquatics Center in Norwalk. In the boys meet, Norwalk posted a 66-21 win over the Flyers and a 45-34 win over the Chargers. Elsewhere, Vermilion beat St. Paul (69-15), Norwalk (52-40) and Edison (55-27), while Edison also defeated St. Paul (38-29). In the matchups on the girls side, St. Paul beat Norwalk (51-42) and Vermilion (66-15), while the Truckers also beat the Sailors (69-14). "Even with winning races and relays, our girls are more focused on the battle within themselves to get better times," St. Paul head coach Stacy Stoll said. "To do this, our girls team will continue to focus on speed work. "As for the boys, they continue to make progress and drop time. Having only one returner this year, we are trying out many new strokes to see where each one is best positioned." Taking first pace for the St. Paul girls included Kennedie Frazee in the 200-yard IM (2:36.8) and the 100 butterfly (1:12.13). Elaina Coriell won both the 100 freestyle (1:04.14) and the 100 backstroke (1:15.03), while Sam Gocsik won the 50 free in 28.49 seconds. In relays, the 200 medley of Coriell, Sarah Gocsik, Frazee and Sam Gocsik won in 2:12.2. The 200 free relay featuring the same four swimmers also won in 1:56.38. For the Norwalk girls, Raena Ringenberg won both the 200 free (2:30.35) and the 500 free (6:57.09). Zuri Immel won the 100 breaststroke in 1:23.95. Also for the Truckers, the 400 free relay of Amara Rodriguez, Saige Konik, Sofia Stahl and Ringenberg won in 4:56.38. Eli Loudy won the 200 free (2:15.65) and the 500 free (6:22.92) for the Norwalk boys. Edison also had three winners, including Jacoby Valimont (1:03.08) in the 100 butterfly and Logan Trinza (1:13.83) in the 100 backstroke. The 400 free relay of Valimont, Jack Woodward, Trinza and Corbin Thayer also took first in 4:08.32. The Flyers are off until after Christmas when they travel to the Cloverleaf Stampede meet at 10 a.m. Dec. 28 at Wooster High School. The Truckers head to Margaretta at 1 p.m. Saturday with Bucyrus Wynford in a tri-meet before heading to Tiffin with a tri-meet with host Columbian and Toledo Central Catholic at 11 a.m. on Dec. 28.
