Sheriff's office warns about package scam

The Huron County Sheriff's Office warned locals to be wary after a county resident reported receiving a fraudulent package delivery. That resident received a package purportedly sent by a big box store that they did not order, according to a post on the department's Facebook page. That package contained a QR code and prompted the resident to scan it. "Once you scan the code, they ask for all your personal information," the sheriff's office posted. "Do not scan this QR code, and don't input any information." Additionally, the sheriff's office said: • "If you receive a package like this, first check your account, if you have one with the company." • "If you do not see the order on your account, call your relatives and friends to see if they sent it, and to see if their account has been hacked with the retailer." • "You may do whatever you wish with the item that you received. Just don't give any information to anyone you don't know, or do not do business with." • "If you are unsure, please contact our office at 419-663-2828."
