Ten area players earn District 6 first team

Ten area standouts earned spots on the first team in their respective division on the Ohio Volleyball Coaches Association District 6 teams, announced on Nov. 3. In Division III, SBC Lake Division co-champion Norwalk had two returning selections to the first team in seniors Lucy Schlotterer and Mac Wineman. Schlotterer, also the league player of the year, finished with 403 kills, 239 digs and 157 points (58 aces). Wineman finished with 403 digs and served 195 points with 29 aces. The longtime teammates both surpassed 1,000 kills and digs, respectively. Also for Norwalk, sophomore setter Emily Tyler (721 assists) and freshman hitter Maddie Gamble (152 kills) earned spots on the second team. Sophomore Sawyer Wineman and freshman Ainslee King were selected to the third team. Norwalk head coach Sarah Kipp and Columbian head coach Hope Boes shared Coach of the Year honors. The two teams played three five-set matches this season, as both teams shared the league title and met in a district title match. DIVISION V Willard's Lykins is POY Standout senior hitter Kelsey Lykins earned Player of the Year honors in Div. V for the Crimson Flashes. Lykins had 388 kills and 320 digs this season. She was joined on the first team by senior setter Caitlyn Weaver (765 assists). Both players also surpassed 1,000 kills and assists, respectively. Earning second team for Willard included senior Morgan Lofland (335 digs), junior Camryn Wiers (206 kills) and sophomore Leah Weiss (188 kills). Junior Teagan Schaffer was third team and junior Natalie Slone was honorable mention. Meanwhile, Edison junior Taylor Moore was selected to the first team, while senior teammate Jorja Byington was second team and junior Taylor Wlodarsky was third team. Moore finished with 451 digs for Edison (9-14). Juniors Ella Booth and Dana Preston were honorable mention for the Chargers. Willard head coach Ashley Bond shared Coach of the Year honors with Huron's Don Wood. Bond guided the Flashes to a 22-5 record that included a No. 10 ranking in the final state poll, SBC Bay Division and district championships and a regional runners-up finish. DIVISION VI FC quartet earns first team A pair of Monroeville teammates along with the top players from Western Reserve and New London earned first team spots in Div. VI. Junior hitter Alexa Adams and sophomore defensive specialist Addison Homan were first team selections for the Eagles. Adams had 244 kills, 220 digs and 152 points with 56 aces, while Homan had 222 points (53 aces) and a team-high 547 digs. Also for Monroeville, junior Ady Adams (258 kills) was on the second team, and classmates Madi Reiber and Addison Lyons were on the third team. Also on the first team was Western Reserve junior setter Jamie Muenz. She had 587 assists and served 200 points with 46 aces. Juniors Emma Hammond (216 kills) and Drew Clemons (169 kills) were on the second team and senior Payton Friend was honorable mention. New London's all-everything junior Gracie Thomas was on the first team after helping the Wildcats to their first district title since 1994. Thomas finished with 324 assists, 263 kills, 378 digs and served 255 points (58 aces). On the second team for New London was juniors Pailee Wilson and Ava Ringler (427 digs). Monroeville's Kendra Snook shared Coach of the Year honors with Buckeye Central's Missy McDougal. The Eagles finished 24-2 as Firelands Conference and district champions along with a No. 7 ranking in the final state poll. DIVISION VII St. Paul's Matlack first team Senior setter Kristin Matlack earned first team for a second straight season, this time in Div. VII for the Lady Flyers. Matlack enters Thursday's state semifinal vs. Tiffin Calvert with 696 assists. She adds a team-high 188 points and 35 aces. Sophomore hitter Ella Kalizewski (284 kills) was second team for St. Paul, while junior libero Lily Cuturic was third team. For South Central, Mya Inmon was third team and Karinne Mitchell and Taylor Smith were both honorable mention, as was Plymouth's Lily Cook.
