Schlotterer, Lykins named SBC top performers

Two of the best area hitters who helped lead their respective teams to league championships were named the top volleyball players by the Sandusky Bay Conference coaches. Norwalk senior Lucy Schlotterer and Willard senior Kelsey Lykins were selected as the Most Outstanding Performers in the Lake and Bay divisions, respectively, the league announced on Oct. 22. An NCAA Division II Ashland University recruit, Schlotterer is now a two-time outstanding performer for the Lake Division. She has helped the Truckers (20-3, 8-2) to back-to-back Lake title shares in both seasons and a No. 10 ranking in the final state coaches poll this season. Schlotterer has 372 kills entering Wednesday's rubber match against Tiffin Columbian. The teams split two five-set matches to share the league title — for a Division III district championship in Willard. Schlotterer also has 226 digs on defense and 145 points with 55 aces at the service line. Also for Norwalk, classmate and libero Mac Wineman was a first team choice. She has 409 digs and is 304 for 315 serving with 189 points and 27 aces entering Wednesday. Wineman's sibling, sophomore Saywer Wineman (178 digs, 38 aces), earned honorable mention for the Truckers. Lykins also led the Crimson Flashes (19-4, 10-0) to an outright Bay Division championship and a No. 10 ranking in the final Div. V state coaches poll. Entering Tuesday's district semifinal match against league foe Edison, Lykins has 313 kills, 40 blocks, 268 digs and is 253 for 291 serving with 120 points and 25 aces. Senior setter Caitlyn Weaver was also selected to the first team. She entered Tuesday with 601 assists, 158 digs and is 321 for 347 with 167 points and 38 aces. Earning second team for Willard included senior defensive specialist Morgan Lofland (274 digs, 174 points, 45 aces) and junior hitter Camryn Wiers (166 kills, 104 digs). Sophomore hitter Leah Weiss (162 kills, 23 blocks) was honorable mention for the Flashes. Edison (9-13, 5-5) put junior Taylor Moore on the first team. The defensive specialist entered Tuesday with 421 digs and is 277 for 308 serving with 140 points and 32 aces. Senior Jorja Byington (145 kills, 100 digs) was second team and entered Tuesday serving 299-of-314 with 161 points and 52 aces.
