Willard water tower up for award

The City of Willard's water tower has been nominated for a national honor - Tnemic Tank of the Year. Tnemic is a type of paint used for protection and finishing of steel and concrete structures including structural steel, tanks, pipes, and equipment. Willard's water tank stands proudly with it's bold red, white, and blue "Salute to Veterans" design, symbolizing community, pride, and partiotism, city officials say. "We are grateful to our local businesses and organizations for their contribution to this salute," said City Manager Bryson Hamons. Since 2006, Tnemec has celebrated the innovative and creative uses of its coating on water tanks with the annual Tank of the Year contest. Each year, tanks of all varieties from across the U.S. and Canada are narrowed down to determine the most impressive coatings projects in the water tank industry. Tnemic bills the competition as "a contest that really holds water." A total of seven other tanks in Ohio are also nominated, but none in the immediate area other than Willard. The tanks with the most votes currently are in College Station, Texas, Seguin, Texas, and Sheldon, Iowa. Voting continues through Friday, October 18th, and anyone wanting to vote for the Willard tank can cast their ballot at tankoftheyear.com/willard-ohio/.
