Norwalk girls second at Lake championships

TIFFIN — The Norwalk girls cross country team finished runners-up to host Columbian on Saturday at the Sandusky Bay Conference Lake Division championship meet at Hedges-Boyer Park in Tiffin. The Tornadoes won with 29 points, followed by the Truckers (67) in second and Bellevue (69) in third. Perkins (91) and Clyde (111) rounded out the scoring. Zuri Immel and Grace Norris paced the Truckers by finishing among the top 10 runners. Immel was third overall in a season-best 19:45, while Norris set a new personal-best of 20:53 to place ninth. Saige Konik placed 13th for Norwalk in 21:24, followed by Maddison Trenor (23:11) in 21st; Allison Konik (23:39) in 23rd; and Addison Daniels (23:45) in 24th. In the boys race, Perkins and Columbian each tied for first place with 42 points each. Bellevue was not far behind with 45 points, while Norwalk scored 97 points and Clyde had 119. William Cloud paced the Truckers in 14th with a time of 18:21, while Nolan Jones was 17th in 18:32. Victor Negrete (18:58) placed 21st, followed by Anthony Hall (19:20) in 23rd; Beau Riley (19:41) in 28th; Cameron Brown (19:55) in 31st; and Aaron Christophel (20:13) in 36th place. "I am incredibly proud of all the kids today," Norwalk head coach Stephanie Pope said. "We had so many personal best times, and they all ran extremely hard. We are looking forward to seeing what we can do next weekend at districts." The Truckers will compete at the Findlay Owens Community College course on Oct. 19 in district competition. The girls are in the Division II race at 10:20 a.m., followed by the boys in the Div. I race at 12:20 p.m. Edison second by a point The Chargers were edged out by rival Huron by a single point in the SBC Bay Division boys race on Saturday. The Tigers scored 49 points to Edison's 50. Kellen McDonnell paced Edison by placing fifth overall in 18:03.4. Jackson Michaelis was next in 12th (17:12.3), while Everett Gfell finished 21st in 17:33.8. Logan Facemire (18:08.7) was 35th, followed by Jacoby Vallmont (18:24.9) in 50th; Caleb Jeremay (18:28.2) in 66th; and Quentin Cox (18:38.9) in 84th. Margaretta (61) was third, followed by Vermilion (82), Port Clinton (142) and Willard (160). The Crimson Flashes were paced by Taylor Biddinger (19:22.2) in 27th, Nicholas Adkins (20:32.5) in 58th, and Ethan Adams (20:44) in 91st. In the girls race, Huron cruised to the title with 17 points. Edison (46) was second and Willard (81) was third ahead of fourth-place Margaretta (82). Grace Anderson (20:43.9) was fifth overall for Edison, followed by Zoey Corfman (21:37.5) in eighth and Maylie Weilnau (22:26.2) in 10th. Aili Corfman (22:30) was 12th, followed by Ava Gardner (22:40.5) in 14th; Autumn Krieg-Moore (24:59.8) in 26th; and Aria Hayward (26:01.8) in 29th. Willard was led by Keilly Hernandez Rojas (21:13.6) in eighth and Jenavieve Vasquez (22:48.6) in 15th. Illina Detterman (24:09.9) was 21st and Rosie Huerta (24:33.6) finished 24th.
