Norwalk's Freight House for sale

NORWALK — Norwalk's popular Freight House Pub and Grill is on the market for $1.4 million. Owner Andrew Stroud said he's ready for a change. "It's just time for me to be done with it," Stroud said. "I've taken it as far as it can go, and I'm ready to do something different with my life. The Freight House, 50 N. Prospect St., Norwalk, is a pub in a former freight house with sports and railroad decor. Stroud has owned the restaurant for ten years. Before becoming the Freight House, the building housed Chef's Market and Blue Ribbon Catering. For the asking price of $1.4 million, a new owner would get the restaurant and everything in it, Stroud said. There are about 20 employees who work at the Freight House. Stroud is a 2004 graduate of Norwalk High School. Upon graduating, Stroud joined the U.S. Marine Corps and did one tour in Iraq before getting out and coming back to Norwalk. He then went to culinary school before opening the Freight House. He said he'll miss his employees when he sells the restaurant. "I work with some of the greatest people on the planet," Stroud said. He also said he has developed a lot of relationships since opening the Freight House. "We've gotten a lot of support from the people in Norwalk and people have really enjoyed the food and that makes me happy." Stroud said since putting the restaurant on the market about two weeks ago, he has found a few people who might be interested in buying it. "It's a turnkey business," he said. "You don't have to do anything (different) if you don't want to." Stroud said he is offering to work for one full month free of charge to make the transition as smooth as possible. Stroud has no specific plans for the future. "I will find something to do. But, in the immediate future, I'm just going to relax."
