St. Paul outlasts Western Reserve in four

COLLINS — The St. Paul volleyball team outlasted host Western Reserve in four sets for a Firelands Conference win Tuesday night. The lengthy match, which also saw a delay because of a tornado warning in the Wakeman area — saw the Lady Flyers (10-4, 7-2) post scores of 25-23, 20-25, 25-22 and 28-26. In the first meeting on Aug. 27, St. Paul won in five sets in Norwalk. In Tuesday's win, Ella Kalizewski finished with 10 kills, six blocks and 21 digs. Shealyn Deeter also had 10 kills, while Brooklyn Cassidy had nine and Kegney Stoll added six kills and three blocks. Kristin Matlack finished with 34 assists, 17 digs and added four kills and six blocks at the net. Also for St. Paul, Cassidy was 18 for 21 serving with five aces, and Lily Cuturic was 13 for 15 with two aces and also had 14 digs. Bella Guerra also added 14 digs, and Sydney Wurzel added 12. For Western Reserve (13-4, 8-3), Drew Clemons had 14 kills and Emma Hammond finished with 12. Clemons also had 30 digs and Payton Friend had 29. Jamie Muenz added 49 assists and served 11 points, and Makayla Case also had 12 points serving. St. Paul entertains Mapleton on Thursday and Western Reserve will host South Central.
