Labor stumps for Sherrod

FINDLAY — There's a clear choice for voters in the heated Ohio Senate race between incumbent U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown and Ohio businessman Bernie Moreno, according to labor unions across the state. During a stop in Findlay at the United Steelworkers 207L building, the Workers for Sherrod coalition endorsed Brown's reelection, citing a long record delivering for Ohio workers. "I can confidently say the choice for Senate is crystal clear," Jeff Krantz, the president of the Ohio State Association of Letter Carriers, said. Krantz was joined by the executive secretary of the Ohio State Building and Construction Trades Council Mike Knisley and Norm Wernet, the president of the Ohio Alliance for Retired Americans. The Workers for Sherrod coalition was launched in Columbus earlier this year and workers across Ohio endorsed the incumbent because of dedication to the working class, labor leaders said. Knisley is co-chair of the coalition, along with Ohio AFL-CIO President Tim Burga. The men highlighted efforts Brown made in the Senate, a seat he's held since 2007. Those included passing the SFC Heath Robinson Honoring Our PACT Act and the Butch Lewis Act, both named after Ohioans. Brown has also played a part in other crucial legislation such as the Protect Letter Carriers Act, the Inflation Reduction Act and in the fight against fentanyl. "No one fights harder for Ohio than Sherrod Brown," Wernet said. "No one fights harder for workers than Sherrod Brown. No one fights harder for retirees than Sherrod Brown." Brown is up for reelection against Bernie Moreno, who has been under fire for allegedly lying about a car dealership he owns not selling Chinese-made vehicles. Moreno also has faced backlash after evidence suggested employees acted as customers to write testimonies about the dealership. Sources say the testimonials were provided by previous employees of Moreno in several different positions, including administration, interns and sales. Some have never even purchased a vehicle from Moreno's dealership, according to sources. "Sherrod is somebody we can trust," Wernet said. "Bernie Moreno hasn't been with us."
