Norwalk falls to Div. I Notre Dame

TOLEDO — The Norwalk girls tennis team got a long three-set win at second singles in a 4-1 non-league loss to Notre Dame Academy on Wednesday at the Twos Athletic Club. Sophomore Lydia Trost outlasted Notre Dame's Cathrine Tohme at second singles, bouncing back from a 1-6 first set to win 7-6 (5) and 12-10. Also for Norwalk (7-4), Ana Osborn fell at first singles to Nora Johnson (6-1, 6-2) and Alyssa Gruhlke fell at third singles to Hannah Tam (6-0, 6-1). At first doubles, Notre Dame's Beth and Emily Miller beat Lauren Brown and Kenzie Smith (6-1, 6-2). The second doubles team of Addy Rospert and Shyla Gruhlke fell to Lindsay Stapleton and Anna Shydiak (6-2, 6-2). In junior varsity matches, Roxy Brummit fell (8-2) and Chloe Hazelwood and Aubrey Kluding lost (8-1). GIRLS SOCCER Edison 6, Clyde 1 CLYDE — Edison's Amelia Chartrant scored three goals to lead Edison to a 6-1 win against Clyde. Alaina Keegan scored two goals in the first half and added three assists. Chartrant also recorded an assists for the Chargers (3-3). Kellyn Ritchie added a goal and assist. Edison hosts Columbian on Monday. JUNIOR HIGH NMS teams sweep Clyde CLYDE — The Norwalk seventh and eighth-grade volleyball teams picked up SBC Lake Division wins over host Clyde on Wednesday. The eighth-graders improved to 7-0 overall with wins of 25-22 and 25-9. Leading the team at the net were Olivia Raymond, Lola Schlotterer and Amanda Romell — which came off the assists of Raymond, Romell, and Macari O'Neil. Ivy Ringenberg and Schlotterer had back row attacks and the team served 22 aces. Players with aces included Schlotterer, Raymond, Ringenberg, Elaina Martel, and Addy Sholes. The seventh-grade team won in three sets, 25-16, 18-25 and 25-21. Aubrielle Cruey, Stella Meinhold and Brynn Sellers were 100-percent servers for Norwalk, while Meinhold, Kalli Oates, and Lillian Kipp had several digs each. Laney Schlotterer, Harper Reamer, Oates and Kipp were strong at the net on offense. Norwalk will host Vermilion on Monday at the Middle School gym.
