Lexington gives Norwalk first loss

NORWALK — The Norwalk High School girls soccer team took its first loss of the season on Tuesday. Visiting Lexington (3-2-1) scored a pair of goals in each half in the 4-1 win at Contractors Stadium at the Warren C. Whitney Complex. With the loss, Norwalk fell to 4-1 overall. Claire Spettle scored the only goal for the Truckers in the first half, which was her 13th of the season. Lilly Farmer made 14 saves at goalkeeper for the Truckers, who have a key Sandusky Bay Conference match at 7 p.m. Monday vs. Elmore Woodmore (2-0-1). TENNIS Ottawa Hills 3, Norwalk 0 OTTAWA HILLS — The Truckers fell to 7-3 overall following Tuesday's Ohio Tennis Coaches Association tournament loss in Division II. Ana Osborne fell at first singles to Taylor Kayse (6-0, 6-0), while Shyla Gruhlke lost to Caroline Durfee (6-1, 6-2) at third singles. The Green Bears clinched the match with a win at second doubles, as Addy Rospert and Alyssa Gruhlke fell to Hannah Chernow and Olivia Stumbo (6-1, 6-3). Two matches did not finish. Lydia Trost was trailing Bryn Tangeman (6-1, 5-3) at second singles, and the first doubles team of Kenzie Smith and Lauren Brown won the first set (6-4) and were trailing to Loraina Guardia and Shivani Pindiprolu (4-1) in the second set. Edison 3, Vermilion 2 MILAN — The Chargers edged the Sailors for an SBC Division win on Tuesday at Edison Park. Liz Campbell posted a win over Ava Leslie (6-4, 6-1) at first singles for Edison, while Ivy Kluding defeated Cora Frederick (6-1, 6-0) at second singles. Vermilion's Elyse Myntti beat Jenna Keoghan at third singles in three sets, 4-6, 6-2, 10-5. The Sailors' first doubles team of Lia Leimbach and Megan Wade topped Isabella Wilson and Scarlett Bennett (6-4, 6-2). At second doubles, Edison's Madison Ballah and Rowan Smith beat Anne Csincsak and Paige Dodge (6-4, 6-3). Willard 3, Huron 2 HURON — The Crimson Flashes also picked up a narrow SBC Bay win over the Tigers on Tuesday at Fabens Park. Huron won the first two singles positions. Brianna Miller beat Ava Deel (6-0, 6-3) and Rachel Merckens topped Emma Steinmetz (6-2, 6-3). At third singles, Willard's Juliana Valasez defeated Ally Murray in a lengthy match that saw a third set tiebreaker, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (8). Willard's Makenzie Sykes and Emie Buurma won at first doubles over Claire Daugherty (6-3, 2-6, 6-3). At second doubles, Madie Dials and Cora Clark topped Emma Barnes and Brynne Hartley (7-6 (2), 4-6, 6-3). VOLLEYBALL Willard 3, South Central 0 WILLARD — The Crimson Flashes stopped a two-match skid with Tuesday's non-conference sweep over the visiting Trojans, 25-19, 25-16, 25-22. Kelsey Lykins finished with 13 kills and 22 digs for Willard (6-3), while Leah Weiss had nine kills and nine digs and Caitlyn Weaver finished with 23 assists, five digs and was 12 for 12 serving with an ace. Also for the Flashes, Camryn Wiers had seven kills and Teagan Schaffer had five kills and was 13 for 14 serving with two aces. Morgan Lofland was 19 for 21 serving with six aces and 11 digs, and Emelia Tallman had seven assists and four digs. "Tonight was a strange match, momentum-wise," Willard coach Ashley Bond said. "Aside from Morgan's great serving run in the second set, we were limited on the three-point runs we put together. When Mo has her serve going, our whole team fuels off of it — and that was the case tonight. "Cait also had a couple of really nice hustle plays, which gave us a spark," she added. "We changed up the lineup that we had been using and that required Teagan to serve. She had a great serve tonight and also played well in the front row. Kelsey was doing a great job in the back row of picking up balls and also covering her hitter." For South Central (4-4), Karinne Mitchell had nine kills and two blocks, while Anna Milavec was 16 for 17 serving with four aces and six digs. Claire Howell had three kills and five digs, while Isabella Kimberlin added six digs and was 13 for 13 serving with an ace. Willard also won the junior varsity match in three sets, 23-25, 25-23 and 25-16. The Flashes (1-0 SBC Bay) have a huge test on Thursday when they host Huron (2-3, 0-0). South Central (1-2 FC) visits St. Paul (5-2, 3-0) on Thursday in Firelands Conference play. Monroeville 3, Crestview 0 MONROEVILLE — The Eagles improved to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in the FC with Tuesday's sweep over the visiting Cougars inside the Monroeville Athletic Complex. Monroeville posted scores of 25-14, 25-16 and 25-15. Ady Adams finished with 10 kills and six digs, and the trio of Taryn Tyler, Alexa Adams and Madi Reiber each had nine kills. Addison Lyons was 13 for 13 serving with two aces and six digs, while Addison Homan finished with 22 assists and 18 digs. Also for the Eagles, Kaci Poths had 16 assists and Tyler was 13 for 15 serving with two aces. Grace Stieber had seven digs and Alexa Adams added six. Monroeville (5-0, 3-0) also won the JV match in two, 25-12, 25-12. The Eagles visit Western Reserve on Thursday in an FC match. GIRLS GOLF St. Paul 300, Port Clinton 307 CATAWBA ISLAND — The Lady Flyers picked up their second win of the season by using a fifth score tiebreaker on Tuesday over the host Redskins at the Catawba Island Club. Sam Gocsik paced St. Paul with a 57, while just behind her was teammates Zoe Roth and Aubry Dilger, who each shot 58s. Jillian Weilnau (61) was the fourth score, followed by Alia Bogart as the fifth score with a 66. St. Paul will return to the links next Monday at Clear Fork.
