Area teams open at Tiger Classic

ATTICA — Area cross country teams were in action on Saturday at the annual Seneca East Tiger Classic. Norwalk's girls team placed seventh, and the boys were eighth, in their respective Black (Div. I) divisions. Saige Konik paced the girls team in 26th place in a time of 22:23. Teammate Grace Norris (23:44) was in 41st, while Allison Konik (24:56) placed 64th. Rounding out the top seven included Anna Whaley (25:48) in 78th; Maddison Trenor (25:50) in 79th; Addison Daniels (27:03) in 90th; and Allison Rothhaar (29:01) in 108th. For the NHS boys, Alex Christophel (18:52) was in 36th place and William Cloud (19:06) was 45th. Anthony Hall was 71st (20:17) and Nolan Jones (20:33) was 78th. Rounding out the top seven included Adam Slate (21:11) in 87th; Victor Negrete (21:27) in 96th; and Michael Lucas (22:32) in 122nd. "It was an extremely hot race for our kids today, and I am very proud of the effort the runners showed," Norwalk head coach Stephanie Pope said. "Times definitely do not reflect our capabilities, but they gave it all out on the course. "Saige had a great race and even managed to run 10 seconds faster than she did on Monday at Keystone when it was 20-plus degrees cooler. She is showing great leadership both off and on the course, and I am so excited to see what she does throughout the season." The Truckers are back in action on Tuesday at the NOL reunion meet held in Bellevue. The boys will race the two-mile course at 5 p.m. and the girls at 5:30 p.m. ORANGE DIVISION Edison places second, third The Edison boys placed second in the Orange Division (II) behind Ottawa Hills (72) with 100 points. Jackson Michaelis placed ninth for Edison in 17;30.44 and was followed by Everett Gfell (17:48) in 16th and Jacoby Valimont (17:56) in 18th. Quentin Cox (18:06) was 24th, followed by Kellen McDonnel (18:57) in 35th; Logan Facemire (19:16) in 44th; and Caleb Jeremay (19:23) in 49th. The Charger girls placed third with 99 points in the Orange division behind Crestview (68) and Ottawa Hills (68). Grace Anderson led Edison in sixth place in 20:40. Lily Risner (21:59) and Zoey Corfman (22:18) were in 18th and 19th, followed by Juliana Johnson (22:31) in 27th. Rounding out the lineup for the Chargers included Maylie Weilnau (23:00) in 35th and Ava Gardner (23:51) and Aili Corfman (23:55) in 47th and 48th, respectively. WHITE DIVISION SP girls, NL boys third In the Div. III races, the St. Paul girls totaled 112 points to finish behind Mt. Gilead (52) and Gibsonburg (109). Adele Dowdell placed 15th in 21:56 and Kate Ware (21:58) was just behind in 16th for the Flyers. Scarlett Ross (23:10) was in 31st, while Anna Wright 923:38) was 42nd. Rounding out the top seven was Jenny Schwan (23:48) in 45th; Frances Donnelly (24:23) in 52nd; and Jadyn Smith (24:45) in 54th. Also in the same race, New London's Valery Henry (21;13) was eighth overall and Hailey Crocket (21:35) was 12th. They were followed by Madison Smith (23:53) in 46th; Emma McCully (25:19) in 64th; and Paiton Shepherd (26:03) in 76th. For Monroeville, Lilly Stein (24:09) was 49th and Avery Rosser (25:58) was 74th. In the boys race, New London (142) was third behind Mt. Gilead (32) and Dalton (100). The Wildcats were paced by Carter Hicks (16:50) in seventh and Tate Landis (17:26) in 15th. Also for New London, Fritz McCully (18:39) was 41st and Ryan Twining (18:45) was 42nd. For St. Paul, Owen Thimke (18:50) was 45th and Lukas Marsh (19:18) was 64th. Plymouth's Colton Sundstrom (19:48) placed 81st.
