GIRLS GOLF: Bellevue edges Perkins in Shootout; Margaretta shoots record at Willard

PERKINS TWP. — A season ago, the SBC Lake Division girls golf competition came down to a single-point win by Perkins over Bellevue. On Thursday, the Lady Red fired the first salvo in the new season while the Pirates showed they'll be right in the hunt again. Bellevue won the first Lake girls golf shootout of the season by two strokes over Perkins, posted a 196 versus a 198 at Woussickett. The Lady Red were paced by senior Lauren Fleming's 45, followed by a 47 from Tessa Blankenship, a 51 from Addison Miller and a 53 by Ava Meyer. Perkins sophomore Ireland Hart earned the event's individual medalist honors with a 44. Alex Hupp followed with a 48, Emily Terry shot a 51 and Maycee Bohn came in at 55. Norwalk, which was also in the thick of the title race last season, came in third Thursday with a 205 team score. The Truckers were led by a 45 from senior Kilee Duncan. Grace Wiegel added a 50, followed by Adyson Lepley's 53 and Emerson Ulery's 57. Clyde put up a 207 team score to come in fourth. Sienna Turner and Madi Hall each had a 1 for the Fliers, followed by 52 from Abbie Rogish and 53 by Samantha Young. Tiffin Columbian's 237 rounded out the five-team competition, with Emma Spurck's 56 the best score on the Tornadoes. With no girls team at Sandusky this fall, the Lake Division girls race will feature four more regular season shootouts and then culminate at the league tournament. Margaretta wins Willard Invite WILLARD — Margaretta won the Willard Domino's Pizza Invitational with a school 18-hole record of 361 on Thursday at the Willard Golf Club. The previous record was 370. Also for the Polar Bears, Ellyse Schaefer and Erica Miller tied the individual 18-hole record with a pair of 83s, They tied for second place individual at the tournament. Meanwhile, Edison's Annabelle Seville shot a 43-38 for an 81 to win tournament medalist honors. Leah Sharp added a 105 and Ella Rogers shot a 132.
