New London Rotary receives state award

The New London Rotary Club has received a HERO award from ShelterBox USA for a recent donation of $1,000, as well as a series of donations over the last few years. Rotary District 6600 Assistant Governor John Hill presented the award to the club at the July 8 meeting and congratulated the members for their contribution to ShelterBox, as well as to the community. The club administers the local United Fund campaign each year, as well as sponsors the Halloween and Firelands Festival parades, grants an annual scholarship, runs the Person of the Year project, does a roadside pickup on a section of SR 60, honors graduating seniors with a luncheon and conducts a Rural/Urban day each spring for those interested in agriculture. In the past the club has donated to the Child Case Center, the parks, the Community Club and many other local activities and projects. It also supports Rotary International PolioPlus, which has the goal of eliminating the disease around the world. Members meet at noon each Monday in the basement of the United Methodist Church. Anyone interested in learning more about this service organization is invited to attend a lunch meeting to become more acquainted with the club, which was formed in 1926.
