Amphitheater being assembled

NORWALK — Work has begun on the new amphitheater at Norwalk's Memorial Lake Park. Lynden Ramsey, the city's park and recreation superintendent, expects the structure's completion to conclude sometime soon. "It could be complete by mid-June," Ramsey said. "And that all depends on weather and how all the pieces come together." Officials have described the amphitheater as a "kit" and said it needs to be assembled, not constructed. After it's assembled, workers will have to do grading and seeding. "Everyone is excited, and we are, too," Ramsey said. This would include Norwalk Mayor Dave Light. Project contractor "DL Smith is doing an amazing job," Light said. "Our general services always rise to the occasion as well. This is another gem for our city that most communities our size just don't have." Light also said he's sure the amphitheater will be booked for lots of bands and weddings. Aaron Osborn, the city's public works director, noted some electrical work must also occur. "The project is progressing nicely and will be an asset for our community." Osborn has said previously site work and erection of the amphitheater is expected to cost about $126,400. The amphitheater was made possible because of a $300,000 grant the city received from the state, but Norwalk is still responsible for having the amphitheater assembled. Ramsey has also said "there's ideas floating around" about the types of activities that will take place at the new amphitheater, but she has said it's too soon to mention any specifics.
