Norwalk's Harp, Wells earn District 9 first team

The Norwalk baseball team placed six players on the All-District 9 Division I teams, as announced on May 21 by the Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Association. Earning a spot on the first team was junior second baseman and pitcher Isaiah Wells and sophomore first baseman Carter Harp. At the plate, Wells batted .320 with three doubles, six RBIs and scored 22 runs and walked 12 times from the leadoff position, where he also stole six bases. On the mound, Wells was 1-2 with a 3.50 earned run average. He allowed 18 earned runs on 33 hits with 16 strikeouts and 17 walks in 36 innings of work. Carter Harp hit .328 with a double, nine RBIs and scored 13 times for the Truckers (6-15). Earning second team for the Truckers was sophomore shortstop Landon Ferkel; and junior outfielders Avery Scheel and Ben Rothhaar. Ferkel hit .292 with 13 RBIs and scored 17 runs, while Rothhaar batted .295 with a pair of doubles, 19 RBIs and 11 runs scored. Scheel hit .324 with nine doubles, one triple, 20 RBIs and scored 15 times. Senior pitcher Tanner Harp was also honorable mention for Norwalk. He was 2-3 with a 3.50 ERA after allowing 20 earned runs on 43 hits with 34 strikeouts and 10 walks in 40 innings. Perrysburg's Matt Hubbard — a University of Toledo commit — was the Player of the Year in Div. I, while Ashland's Rick Gough was Coach of the Year. Hubbard has helped Perrysburg to a district title by batting .416 with 11 doubles, one triple, one home run and 32 RBIs at the plate. On the mound, he's 5-3 with a 1.95 ERA in 11 starts. He has struck out 63 and walked seven in 46 2/3 innings. In Division II, five SBC Lake Division players earned first team recognition in Columbian's Isaiah Tilse and Bryce Roggow; Perkins' John Zwiesler; Huron's Tommy Ray; and Vermilion's Riley Kearns.
