Strawberry Festival returns

The Strawberry Festival is coming back to uptown Norwalk this weekend. The event is run by the Norwalk Jaycees and has been around since 1974. Jaycees President Danny Grine said there are a lot of new things at this year's festival. "We've got a lot of great, community-focused events," Grine said. Here's what's new: Roth Family Farmstead Lesson from the Strawberry Patch, 12:30-1 p.m. Sunday in the Activities Tent Norwalk Fire Department Pancake Breakfast, 8:30-10 a.m. Saturday in the Activities Tent North American Martial Arts Institute demonstration, 11-11:45 a.m. Sunday on the Main Stage Yoga with Julie Shaull, 8:30 a.m. Sunday in Suhr Park "We've got a lot of great things planned. That's just the tip of the ice burg," Grine said. The festival runs from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, and 8:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sunday. The Beer Tent will be open from 5-10 p.m. Friday, and Noon to 10 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The festival touts lots of free family fun. "Activities include face painting, crafts, games from local organizations, and much more! These activities will take place on West Main Street," a flyer promoting the Strawberry Festival states. Registration for the Strawberry Jam 5k is from 7-8 a.m. Saturday at the Huron County Chamber of Commerce. The race takes place on the scenic North Coast Inland Trail. Organizers are also reminding people that bikes, skate boards, or roller blades are not permitted at the festival.
