Norwalk falls in non-league test at Madison

MADISON TWP. — The Norwalk softball team continued to test itself outside of league play with Thursday's 8-3 loss at Division I Mansfield Madison. The Truckers (12-7) led 2-1 after three innings, and the game was tied after four innings. However, the Rams (15-5) scored three runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings to take control. For Norwalk, Tyra Corbin was 3 for 3 with a double and scored a run. CJ Bennett was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI, and Emily Skeel singled with two RBIs. In the circle, Haley Gockstetter allowed three earned runs on 11 hits with six strikeouts and two walks in six innings. Norwalk will host Perkins on Friday with a chance to clinch the SBC Lake title outright. The Truckers earned a share of their first-ever league title on Wednesday at Tiffin Columbian. Ella Kalizewski singled with three RBIs, while Layla Gardner doubled and Kaylee Altomare and Taegan Mansfield-Bush each singled. Elaina Herrig added an RBI. Gracie Thomas doubled with two RBIs, and Patton Shephard also double with an RBI. In the circle, Emilee Rowland struck out 10 of the 12 outs she recorded in four innings with one walk and one hit. Shephard threw a scoreless fifth. New London has two big tests to start next week when it hosts Monroeville (15-5, 9-1) on Monday and visits the Eagles on Tuesday next week in FC play.
