Willard tops Norwalk; Edison stays unbeaten

NORWALK — The visiting Willard tennis team won four of the five matches over host Norwalk on Wednesday for a non-league victory at the middle-school courts. Norwalk's lone win came at third singles, as Devyn Emmons defeated Ben Martinus (6-2, 6-2). In other matches, Willard's Levi Schag topped Ethan Brown in two close sets at first singles, 6-4, 7-5. At second singles, Cam Robinson beat Drew Thomas (6-2, 6-4). At first doubles, Eli Kluding and Wyatt Fox fell to Masyn Johnson and Mason Dawson (6-4, 6-2). The second doubles team of Edward Ramos Cruz and Evan Minor lost to Braylon Long and Cullen Hill (6-1, 6-2). "Tonight was not our night," Norwalk head coach Eric Mozina said. "We were down two varsity starters due to illness. Despite that I do want to note that the "next men up" did a nice job. There were a lot of competitive points played, however, many didn't go our way in the end. "That said, Willard has a really nice team that I expect to continue to have a very good season.Devyn played a really nice match tonight moving to third singles. He learned a lot from his singles match last week which he brought into tonight and used to his advantage. Ethan really battled, and was close to taking his match to a third set." In junior varsity matches, Abe Buie and Henry Daiga won (6-2); while the pairing of Talen Young and Allen Upton lost (6-1). The Truckers visit Perkins on Thursday in another league match. Edison 3, Clyde 2 MILAN — The Chargers stayed unbeaten (5-0) with Wednesday's non-league win over the visiting Fliers at Edison Park. The Chargers took all three singles positions. Parker Campbell beat Justin Clark (6-0, 6-1); Aidin Colbert beat Diego Garcia (6-0, 6-0); and Noah Proctor defeated Dario Moreno (6-0, 6-1). At first doubles, Edison's Jonah Main and Liz Campbell fell to Alex Krintzline and Aric Kauble (6-2, 6-0). The second doubles team of Bodhi Webb and Chase Castle beat Edison's Sam McCLester and Andrew Gray (6-3, 6-3).
