Norwalk; Willard and Edison pick up SBC wins

NORWALK — The Norwalk boys tennis team stayed perfect in SBC Lake Division play with Tuesday's 4-1 home victory over visiting Sandusky. At first singles, Ethan Brown defeated Adrik Purdy in two sets (6-1, 6-0). Drew Thomas did the same over Tate Maillard at second singles (6-0, 6-1), while Wyatt Fox beat Mason Henley at third singles (6-1, 6-1). The first doubles team of Eli Kluding and Eva Ott fell to Evan Hoffman and Brady Mullins (6-2, 6-3). At second doubles, Ronnie Freeman III and Devyn Emmons topped Hugh Griffiths and Kyle Nickelson (6-0, 6-0). In junior varsity matches, Edward Ramos Cruz and Evan Minor won (8-0), as did Abe Buie and Henry Daiga (8-6). The team of Taleb Young and Allen Upton fell (8-3). "Sandusky was missing a couple players tonight and I'm sure the next time we play them it'll be a very tough match based on what we saw from them tonight," Norwalk head coach Eric Mozina said. "We're coming together as a team and are very happy to be 2-0 in the league." The Truckers host Willard on Wednesday. Willard 3, SMCC 2 WILLARD — The Crimson Flashes (2-1, 2-0) got a pair of wins in singles and the clinching victory at second doubles on Wednesday in an SBC Bay Division win over SMCC (4-3, 1-2). Winning for Willard included Levi Schag over Jacob Harrison at first singles (6-2, 6-0) and Cam Robinson over Evan Etchill (6-0, 6-0) at second singles. The second doubles team of Braylon Long and Cullen Hill beat Jaxon Maschari and Pavan Gorty (6-4, 6-3). Willard's Ben Martinus fell to Joey Faber (6-1, 6-3) at third singles, while the No. 1 doubles team of Maysn Johnson and Mason Dawson fell to Charlie Kaftan and Luke Spicer (6-4, 3-6, 6-3). Edison 4, Calvert 1 MILAN — The Chargers improved to 4-0 (2-0 SBC Bay) with Tuesday's win over the Senecas at Edison Park. Parker Cambell got things going for Edison at first singles with a win over Kevin Ardner (6-2, 6-3). At second singles, Aidin Colbert beat Xavier Kimmet (6-2, 6-0). Third singles saw Calvert's Brad Wellman top Liz Cambell (6-4, 6-0). The first doubles team of Noah Proctor and Jonah Main beat Gavin Wagner and Kennedy Cleland (6-1, 6-1). At second doubles, Sam McClester and Andrew Gray won over Andrea Orr and Parker Nye (6-3, 6-1).
