Imagination station brings outer space down to earth

FINDLAY — The Findlay-Hancock County will end this coming week with an out-of-this-world visit from Imagination station. On Saturday, March 16, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Imagination Station is coming to the library to help us celebrate CommunityREAD. Participants in the Imagination Station event will have an out-of-this-world experience learning about our solar system by way of 12 interactive stations throughout the library. Attendees will discover how stars are born, learn facts about the objects in the solar system, learn about the moon's phases, and explore how objects orbit each other. Those who have made a reservation will also enjoy STARLAB®, a portable planetarium. We will be offering free eclipse glasses to prepare for the coming eclipse (2 per family) while supplies last. The Book Cellar, the Friends of the Library's used book store in the lower level will also be open. Visitors to the Book Cellar will receive a free item on Saturday. Join us for this amazing free community event. On Monday at 6:30 p.m., the Lit Lovers Book Discussion will take place in the Administration Office. The book that will be discussed is out CommunityREAD title, Hidden Figures by Margot Lee Shetterly. At 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday and Thursday in the Lindamood Room, Miss Nicole presents Storytime: Stars. Sing, rhyme, read, and craft while learning all about the stars and sky. Teen Volunteers is scheduled for Tuesday at 4 p.m. in the Children's Programming Room. Students in grades 7-12 are invited to come for an hour of volunteering fun. Get volunteer time for school or just to help your community. Starter Storytime will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday and Friday in the Lindamood Room. Miss Nicole will lead families in singing, rhyming, reading and having fun with scarves and instruments. This program is suggested for children up to 36 months of age with a caregiver. Older siblings are welcome, too. On Wednesday, March 13, Mini Meet-up Teddy Bear Clinic takes place at 10 a.m. in the Children's Programming Room in the Children's Department. Local pediatrician, Dr. Ailing Chen, will be visiting us this week. Child can bring their favorite stuffie for a full exam and treatment, then stay and play with a selection of the library's toys. Storytime at Arlington takes place on Wednesday at 11:15 a.m. at the Arlington Branch of the Findlay-Hancock County Public Library. Children can enjoy some reading fun, songs, crafts, and socialization with other children. This week, attendees will talk about stars and space. The CommunityREAD title, Hidden Figures by Margot Lee Shetterly is the title to be considered at this month's Bows & Blasters Book Discussion on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the Administration Office. Our Virtual Author Talks series continues Thursday, March 14 at 4 p.m. with Christopher Paolini discussing his new book in the World of Eragon with Murtagh. Master Gardeners present Creating Your Living Landscape on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in the Lindamood Room. The presentation and workshop on planning and planting a native plants garden is based on Doug Tallamy's books, The Living Landscape and The Nature of Oaks. Participants can bring pictures or a drawing of their proposed garden for help about how to create their layout. In partnership with the Borderless Relations Committee, Kids Club: Exploring Diversity seeks to promote cultural awareness and acceptance. During each session, participants will read and discuss a cultural story then further explore cultures through activities like playing games and enjoying cultural snacks. On March 14 at 6 p.m. in the Children's Programming Room in the Children's Department, there will be an exploration of Irish culture. This program is for grades 2-6 with an adult caregiver. Friday at 10 a.m. in the Children's Programming Room, infants up to 36 months can enjoy a free playtime opportunity to socialize and explore new games, toys, and activities that are educational and fun while meeting other families. Dr. Lisa Johnson and Dr. Lisa Sakemiller, Pediatric Occupational Therapists and University of Findlay faculty, will be collaborating with parents and caregivers on creating an optimal home environment for child development and learning. This week, the topic is setting up the home to support child development.
